Artist Biography:

Artist Amanda Thweatt

A graduate of Kansas City Art Institute with a Bachelor's Degree in Painting & Printmaking, 1987, Amanda was one of 3 national recipients of the Thomas Hart Benton Scholarship for KCAI.

A native and resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Ms. Thweatt continues her artistic journey,  producing fine art paintings, conducting creative workshops, and coaching  artists with their own projects in the historic West Bottoms.

As an avid adventurer, Amanda takes inspiration from the always captivating colors and textures found in nature. During a stay in the  Rheinland-Pfalz area of Germany (2009-11,) she discovered the “earthy” color palettes of the region in her “Terramur” painting series. The Marvels of the European countryside, art and architecture lend an ongoing source of reflection and inspiration for her works today. Taking her works in a sustainable natural and toxic free direction has become a compelling aspect of her approach and interest.

Also having enjoyed over a decade in the field of decorative painting and ornamental plaster, Amanda has been a key artist on numerous restoration and new paint campaign projects across the U.S. including Visitation Parish, the Power & Light Building (K.C., MO,) Elsinore Theater (Salem, OR,) Several State Capitol Buildings including the United States Capitol Building (Washington D.C.) to name a few.

Amanda’s artwork has been viewed in gallery exhibitions including the Leedy Voulkos Gallery (K.C. MO,) Lessmeister Gallery (Rheinland-Pfalz,) Populuxe Gallery K.C. MO,) as well as a solo exhibition at the Cross Gallery (K.C. MO.) Her works are also to be found worldwide in private collections.
